Buddha Dordenma (Shakyamuni Buddha)
Thimphu, Bhutan
The Buddha Dordenma, known locally as the Buddha Point, is a magnificent golden Shakyamuni statue overlooking the southern entrance of the Thimphu Valley. Standing at 51.5 metres tall, it is one of the largest Buddha rupas in the world and is crafted from solid bronze gilded in shimmering gold. Beyond its imposing exterior, the statue’s interior houses 125,000 smaller bronze Buddha figurines, each also gilded in gold. Visitors are drawn here not only for the spiritual magnitude of the monument but also for the unparalleled panoramic views of the capital city and the surrounding Himalayan pine forests. It serves as a profound symbol of peace, prosperity, and the enduring Buddhist heritage of Bhutan.
