Perched atop Mount Hill, the 17th-century Mount Fortress (Fortaleza do Monte) stands as a formidable testament to Macau’s colonial military past. Built by the Jesuits between 1617 and 1626, it served as the city’s primary defense against maritime threats, most notably during the Dutch invasion of 1622. Today, the UNESCO-listed site offers a tranquil escape from the urban bustle, featuring lush gardens, ancient cannons, and panoramic vistas of the historic center and the Ruins of St. Paul's. The complex also houses the Museum of Macau, where visitors can explore the rich cultural tapestry and shared heritage of this unique Lusophone-Chinese enclave.
